Chainmaille Temari Pendants

I think of these as my chainmaille Temari pendants, although the die-hard maillers would perhaps insist on their technical name: Japanese Dodecahedron 10 in 3.

In any case, one thing is true:
These little balls are totally addictive!!

There is never making just one of them...

Difficult for me to use only one color; must mix them up a bit:-)

OK, so maybe just one of these in a single color... How about blue?  Very cool color, blue, that is, with a little on the indigo side... and a little on the purple side:-)

Seriously, isn't this so much more interesting than just the same shade of blue? :-)

I like using the color rings for the surface layer of the sphere, and the bright aluminum rings on the outer connections; the colors stay protected from wear, while the shiny silvery rings bring out the highlights, and echo the reflection from the glass marble in the center of the ball.

Strung on 24" smooth rubber cord, 2mm thick, closes with a dainty sterling silver clasp, the Temari pendant is just a little over 1" in diameter, perfect size for everything in your wardrobe!!

These cute chainmaille Temari ball necklaces are now available for purchase in my online studio DaisyKreates.com.  Thinking about different color combinations?  How about dropping me a note in the "Contact Form" to arrange for a custom order?!

Japanese Dodecaheron Chainmaille Cufflinks

I've been wanting to make these cuff links for a while.... ever since I saw the beautiful cuff links by Corvus in sterling silver.  Very inspired!!

So I thought, what can I do to give my cuff links a little something extra, something to set them apart from the traditional style, like this?

Well, I didn't come up with much... it's hard to improve upon perfection, which the Japanese Dodcahedron is as far as sphere shape goes.  As you can see, and I hope you agree, the little spunky cuff link is already beyond adorable.

So, if there's not much I can add in the front, how about the back, huh?

I'm a big fan of tassels:-)  Anything that swings, moves, with some sparkles, something shiny!

I like these the best in that the tassels are optional.  You can wear the cuff links with or without the tassels.  Yes, I'm all for having options:-)

Traditional.

Or.... a little extra!!

Your choice!!

These lovely cufflinks are now available in my online studio DaisyKreates.com.  Hope you'll come by for a visit.

As for you DIYers out there, I used the fabulous square wire rings 20-C from C and T Designs for the Japanese balls, with a 6 mm Swarovski #5040 inside to plump it up.  Now you know:-)

Thank you for stopping by my blog!  Would love to hear from ya!!

Japanese Dodecahedron Earrings in Silver Monochrome

What's "Dodecahedron"? Apparently according to online search, it's "any polyhedron with twelve flat faces".  That doesn't quite fit the image of my Japanese dodecahedron (or, JD, for short) earrings....  because these earrings are all silver in color, light weight, and 100 percent sassy adornment to any face:-)

Measuring under 3/4 inch wide, and 2 1/2 inches long from tip of ear wire to bottom of tassels, these earrings are mid-length in profile, with spheres as focal design.  They are just the right size for weekdays and weekends; the monochromatic scheme fits day wear and evening wear; the Swarovski crystals sparkle discretely be it formal or casual.  They are the multi-function, super darling accessory you'll reach for time and time again!

To limit the weight, I selected bright aluminum jump rings to construct the surface of the sphere.  This also allows for the slightly heavier stainless steel tassels below the sphere to maintain a taut outline of the overall piece.  Yes, it is true that the devils are in the "engineering" detail when it comes to chainmaille jewelry:-)

The JD earrings are available for purchase in my online studio DaisyKreates.com.  Hope to see you there!

Japanese Dodecahedron Earrings in Stainless Steel and Rainbow Niobium

That's a mouthful for a name...  But fear not!

Look closer at them, you'll see pops of neon colors dance around a stainless steel sphere, with sparkling crystals lightly tugging at the bottom of those dainty steel tassels.

They are in fact rather playful.

Measuring at a tad over 2 inches long and 3/4 inch wide, they're comfortable to wear, and ready to show off your new sassy hair do.

These cuties are handcrafted with stainless steel and niobium jump rings as my favorite modern interpretation of the traditional Japanese chainmaille weave.

I place the spheres near the ear wires to avoid the pendulum effect while allowing the dangling tassels and crystals to add movement and sparkles.

These earrings are available for purchase in my ArtFire studio.

More photos of these earrings are in my Picasa Web Albums.

Kimiko Necklace

Kimiko, name of a lovely little lady in a lovely little city in a lovely little colony.  Yep, if you're a die hard BSG fan like me, you'd know what I'm talking about:-)

In case you're not, I won't hold it against you, just maybe a little sad that you missed out on the best story ever on TV...

OK, anyway, let's start over.

Kimiko is a lovely little pendant, in all shades of fuchsia strung on a lovely little sterling silver chain.  Done in Japanese weave pattern, this sphere shape is also known as Japanese Dodecahedron 5-in-2.  Its large inner chamber is perfect for a little hidden treasure, such as a clear Swarovski® crystal that, when light passes through it, sends out sparkles of pink, violet, and purple. Additionally, I mixed in a few sterling silver rings on the surface of the sphere, to echo the sterling venetian box chain.  This is one lovely little trinket you'll want to see and be mesmerized every time you wear it!

Specs:

Anodized niobium rings in fuchsia mix, WD 1.0mm, ID 3.4mm from C&T Designs.  Sterling silver rings are also 1.0mm, ID 3.2mm, hand cut by me with my trusty jeweler's saw.  Inside the sphere is an 8mm Swarovski® crystal, faceted rondelle (5040) in clear 2xAB.  The chain is a US-made, 24", 1.2mm venetian box chain.

Thank you for stopping by. See you again soon!

p.s. Just in case you're still wondering what I was babbling about BSG: I'm designing a line of BSG inspired jewelry.  I was fascinated by the storyline and
totally enjoyed watching the entire show.
These jewelry pieces are not endorsed by anyone related to BSG, and are
not intended to infringe upon any of BSG rights. I'm an admirer,
showing appreciation for the best TV program EVER! If any official BSG
representative feels otherwise, please let me know; the last thing I
want from this line is to upset the BSG creation.

So, starting from the pilot (see "Are You Alive?"), with each episode, I create a piece of daisykreates-original handmade jewelry with inspirations taken from the name of the episode, a line in the episode, a scene, an act, or whatever.  The Kimiko necklace is a tribute to the little satellite from "Water" of Season 1, where Boomer found the precious, although frozen, water hidden deep in layers of ice.  Crashdown named the satellite "Kimiko, after a lovely little lady in a lovely little city in a lovely little colony!"  Now you know:-)
